CHP systems can help reduce the cost of heating, cooling, or providing power to a wide variety of government and institutional facilities. Installation of CHP systems at these facilities can provide increased power supply reliability, better occupant comfort, improved indoor air quality, and reduced boiler emissions. Major institutional users are colleges/university campuses, district energy/utility facilities, and hospital-type facilities. Medical care facilities average 3.75 MW capacity per site. Colleges/universities average about 12.5 MW per site. Primary schools, on the other hand, have numerous sites, but only average 135 kW per site.
